28th February 2020 sees The Renting Homes (Fees etc.) (Wales) Act 2019 – Holding Deposit Specific Information regulations come into force. ARLA has produced a useful Factsheet detailing the information that must be provided to you by the landlord or letting agent before they take a holding deposit from you. In practice of course, if you do not pay the holding deposit, you will not get the property. However, if you do pay the holding deposit without being given the correct information and something goes wrong, the landlord or letting agent will not be able to keep your money under any circumstances.
